POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Controller - US is responsible for supporting the financial accounting, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting within a specific functional area, and you will lead projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting requirements in an increasingly complex environment. This role is also responsible for partnering and providing specific accounting and other support to various functional and/or business stakeholders in support of their activities. May be required to help prepare budgets and other financial plans for management information, corporate entities, third parties in conjunction with the company's Financial Planning and Analysis activities. This role may have close interaction across several areas of the business and work with the wider Finance Team to add value across relevant teams.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Assist in leading the preparation of accurate financial reporting, both for internal and external purposes following required GAAP and regulatory standards, including providing support for more technical areas.
  • Work with relevant partners to ensure accuracy of transactions and financial disclosure.
  • Support the continued enhancement and ongoing development of multiple financial systems ensuring that all Finance needs are met.
  • Complete aspects of the monthly close, including financial reporting, in compliance with US, or other relevant GAAP, or other regulatory requirements.
  • Help with preparation and review of detailed analysis and monthly/quarterly reconciliations, including reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Communicate with our auditors.

May also be responsible for:
  • Assist in leading the preparation of technical accounting memos observing US GAAP and help prepare more technically challenging accounting memos.
  • Assist in ensuring appropriate SOX 404 processes exist and are followed for preparation and submission of financial data.
Strategic Projects
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and enhancement and propose solutions to improve the efficiency of the functional area.
  • Assist in leading/lead certain projects and project workstreams in connection with global projects.
  • Participate in miscellaneous project work and provide general assistance to the Finance Department and other teams.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the CAO, Global Corporate Controller, and business lead.
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:
  • A university degree preferred, or comparable relevant experience.
  • A professional accounting designation (e.g. CA, ACA, CPA)
  • At least 2 to 5 years prior relevant industry experience (Ideally including Big Four audit experience, preferably within the relevant functional area (e.g. investments, insurance)
  • Fully proficient, has in-depth knowledge, works independently on moderate to high complex matters.
  • Utilizes solid technical competence to achieve exemplary results and to manage and resolve issues.
  • Proactively identifies resources, actions and timelines needed to achieve objectives.
  • Shares resources appropriately and balances the needs of the total department with individual goals and priorities.
  • Conveys points of view/positions in a way that influences opinions and demonstrates flexibility in adapting personal style to different individuals.
  • Proactively shares relevant information to keep others in the loop on important issues, updates, priorities, new developments, and results.
  • Makes improvements of processes, systems, products, or solutions to enhance performance of the department or job area.
  • Responds to and troubleshoots moderate to highly complex inquiries/issues, both internally and externally.
  • Applies knowledge globally.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, and other relevant GAAP as applicable
  • Experience with public companies and SOX 404 is advantageous
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger and other accounting sub-systems (Dynamics365, Workiva)

The full-time base salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000 per year; base salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position is eligible for bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law and applies only to positions in New York City.
