About Us:

Eight million Americans are one paycheck away from becoming homeless. In Washtenaw County, 5000 people are experiencing homelessness. The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County (SAWC) was established in 1982 and is the primary provider of services and emergency shelter for Washtenaw County individuals. SAWC is housed at the Robert J. Delonis Center in downtown Ann Arbor. SAWC works with a diverse range of people struggling with homelessness, including first-time homelessness, veterans, domestic violence survivors, and people battling substance abuse and/or mental health issues. Services are offered through our core programs: Residential Emergency Shelter, Non-Residential, Shelter Diversion, Critical-Time Intervention, and Warming Shelter. The SAWC serves almost 1500 people annually.

Position Profile:

The Assessment Team Manager supervises a team of two assessment case managers and two winter intake specialists ensuring they are creating a welcoming orientation during the assessment process and providing support and additional resources for clients. Many clients completing the assessment will be waiting before a residential bed will become available for them. In the meantime, the completion of the assessment provides access to all shelter services, can place a client on the Community Health Prioritization (CHP) list, links clients to housing case management, and the opportunity to sign up for housing vouchers. Furthermore, the position will upload Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) pre-applications into the MSHDA portal on behalf of SAWC. This position will primarily work early afternoons into evenings and at least one weekend day to support the evening assessor and winter intake specialists.

Pay & Benefits:

The is a salaried, exempt position with an annual salary ranging between $50,000 - $56,000. Duties & Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

• Assist where necessary with the orderly running of the Delonis Center.
• Transport clients in personal vehicle, as needed.

• Meet with clients in the community, as needed.
• Do real-time data entries in HMIS system to ensure that case record is complete and up-to-date.
• Support other managers and coordinators, as needed.
• Work weekends and/or evenings during winter months, and holidays, as assigned.
• Perform other assignments as directed by the Program Director.

Assessment Team Manager Responsibilities:

• Supervise team of assessment case managers and winter intake specialists
• Provide assessment training and ensure the client’s experience at assessment/intake is welcoming and offering resources/referrals
• Support the team with the completion of coordinated entry service assessment for single adults experiencing homelessness each week as needed
• Understand and utilize community resources, as appropriate to client needs and make referrals; and determine appropriate SAWC services and referrals
• Monitor and evaluate team data entry quality to ensure standards are met and there is an effort toward continuous quality improvement
• Oversee the successful delivery of assessment/intake outputs; monitor and evaluate program effectiveness
• Process uploads of at least 30 Housing Choice Voucher pre-applications into the MSHDA portal each week
• Follow up with clients on the HCV list needing assistance with re-certification to remain on the list every 90-120 days
• Provide written homeless verification letters for clients accessing shelter/shelter services to remain on the HCV list
• Coordinate with the community partners on Coordinated Entry referrals, processes, and assessments
• Partake in SAWC’s management collaboration meetings and responsibilities such as being on call
• Attend and participate in case review team meetings and community housing coordination meetings
• Assist with Front Desk Coverage and Community Meal dining room monitoring as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field required. Master’s of Social Work or similar degree preferred. Related or alternative equivalent experiences to degrees also considered.
• Minimum two years of case management experience working in a housing/homelessness, mental health, counseling, substance use, or similar setting.
• Have strong diagnostic skills especially related to mental health and substance abuse issues.
• HMIS or similar electronic records system experience strongly preferred.
• Experience in data and evaluation including continuous quality improvement
• Minimum one-year supervisory experience
• Knowledge of health care system and community resources.
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have strong critical thinking skills.
• Must have a positive attitude, be open to change, and eager to be a part of achieving greater mission of ending homelessness.
• Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.
• Strong organizational skills
• Willingness to adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics.

• Be reliable and willing to work required shifts, including holidays and weekends.
